The Prophet: A New Thriller from Yours Truly

To help pay the bills while I continue to look for a job, I decided to self-publish my last novel, The Prophet:

Twelve year-old Callie Rich wouldn’t know what a normal childhood looks like. She and her family have been a part of the Lambs of Zion church their entire lives, existing in a well-guarded pocket of the American southwest where modernity and independence are shunned. When their leader, the Prophet, excommunicates her father—one of his closest advisors—and takes Callie to be his next bride, it has to be a mistake.

One town over, private detective Max Barker is well aware of the polygamist cult on the Arizona-Utah border, but he keeps his distance like everyone else until Callie’s father shows up on his doorstep begging for help. His family is in danger and he has the proof that could bring the whole organization—and its leader—crashing to the ground. Max, hoping to make good on a promise he’d kept to a former Lamb, decides to help.

Unaware of her father’s plan, Callie joins up with a group of other wives looking to escape, but someone inside the church knows what they’re up to. While Max and Callie’s father work to infiltrate the church for evidence, Callie and the other women of the LoZ must hurry and leave before the Prophet takes drastic action to keep his church, his family, and his legacy intact.

James Patterson Saving Independent Bookstores

James Patterson may be a powerhouse author with his own section at Barnes & Noble, but he has always been a champion for independent bookstores everywhere. With COVID-19 closing stores for the time being, Patterson is stepping in to help.

Dorany Pineda for the LA Times:

The bestselling writer of “Along Came a Spider” and “NYPD Red” announced on Thursday a personal donation of $500,000 to help save independent bookstoresacross the country. Many have been forced to shut their doors indefinitely or drastically change their business models to comply with measures imposed to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Patterson also partnered with Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon and her platform Reese’s Book Club, the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc) and the American Booksellers Assn. to promote the #SaveIndieBookstores campaign, which will run through April 30.

Notion - The All-in-One Workspace

Thanks to Iain Broome’s brilliant Unslush newsletter, I was introduced to this fascinating app called Notion.

It’s a notepad, database, wiki, to-do list, and more all in one app. If you’re looking for a way to keep your team’s work all in one place, or you need to keep track of all aspects of your book (plot, characters, marketing, etc), this is worth a look.

You can download it for iOS, Mac OS, Windows, and they also offer a Web version.
